Messages are stored temporarily in server memory while the party is active. When you leave and close your browser, your local chat history is cleared. When all participants leave for more than 6 hours, the entire room including all messages is permanently deleted from the server. We don't store or archive any conversations.

Absolutely! Many teams use Party Buttons for ice breakers, team building activities, and informal virtual hangouts. It's perfect for making remote work more engaging and fun. However, for formal presentations or video conferencing, consider using specialized video call platforms.

The soundboard fetches sound effects from MyInstants, a popular sound effects library. When you click a sound button, it plays simultaneously for everyone in the room. You can search for specific sounds, preview them privately by right-clicking, add favorites, and even block sounds you don't like. All sounds are synchronized in real-time across all participants.

The limit (2-100 participants, configurable) ensures optimal performance and a good experience for everyone. Too many participants can cause lag, audio overlaps, and make chat difficult to follow. For most gatherings, even a limit of 20-30 creates a great dynamic. The host can set the limit when creating the room.

Yes! Party Buttons now has comprehensive moderation tools. As the party creator (host), you automatically get moderation powers. You can mute users temporarily, kick them (they can rejoin), or ban them permanently. You can also delete inappropriate messages and promote trusted participants to moderators. Additionally, password-protected rooms give you control over who can join in the first place. See the moderation questions below for more details!

Party Buttons features a comprehensive moderation system with multiple layers:

Host Powers: The party creator becomes the host and can mute, kick, or ban disruptive users, delete messages, and promote trusted participants to moderators.

Community Reports: Any user can report inappropriate messages. After 3 reports, messages are automatically hidden. Moderators can review all reports.

Democratic Voting: Users can start votes to kick, mute, or ban problematic participants. A 60% majority is required, and votes last 2 minutes.

Message Rate Limiting: Hosts can set cooldowns between messages (0-15 seconds) to prevent spam.

Moderators have several tools to maintain a positive environment:

Mute Users: Temporarily prevent users from sending messages (5, 10, or 30 minutes).

Kick Users: Disconnect disruptive users (they can rejoin).

Ban Users: Permanently block users from the party.

Delete Messages: Remove inappropriate content from chat.

Only the host can promote or demote moderators. All moderation actions are logged and visible to other moderators.

Every message has a flag icon (🚩) for reporting. Click it and select a reason: Spam, Inappropriate Content, Harassment, Offensive Language, or Other. Your report is anonymous. After 3 independent reports, the message is automatically hidden for all users. Moderators can see all reports and take additional action if needed. False reporting is discouraged as it affects community trust.

Community voting allows participants to democratically moderate the party. Click the ballot box icon (πŸ—³οΈ) on any message to start a vote to kick, mute (10 min), or ban a user. All participants see the vote and can cast Yes or No. Votes last 2 minutes and require 60% approval to pass. This prevents a single moderator from having too much power and ensures fair moderation decided by the community.

Moderators and Hosts can use chat commands to quickly moderate:

Basic Commands (Everyone):
β€’ /help - Show all available commands
β€’ /rules - Display party rules
β€’ /clear - Clear your local chat history

Moderation Commands (Moderators & Host):
β€’ /mute <nickname> <minutes> [reason] - Mute a user temporarily
  Example: /mute John 10 Spamming
β€’ /unmute <nickname> - Unmute a user
β€’ /kick <nickname> [reason] - Kick a user (can rejoin)
β€’ /ban <nickname> [reason] - Ban a user permanently
β€’ /unban <nickname> - Unban a previously banned user

Host-Only Commands:
β€’ /promote <nickname> - Promote user to moderator
β€’ /demote <nickname> - Demote a moderator

πŸ’‘ Tip: Type /help in the chat to see commands available to your role! You can also use the moderation menu (⚠️ button) on messages for visual moderation.

Party Buttons is lightweight and works well on most connections. For smooth experience, we recommend at least 1 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload speed. The platform uses WebSocket connections which are efficient with bandwidth. Even on slower connections, basic chat and soundboard features work reliably.

No daily limits! You can create unlimited party rooms and use all features freely. The only restrictions are: maximum 100 participants per room, messages limited to 1000 characters, nicknames to 30 characters, and images compressed to under 1MB. Hosts can also configure message rate limits (0-15 seconds) to control spam. These limits ensure platform stability and good performance for everyone.

Yes! You can use regular Unicode emojis, click the emoji picker (πŸ˜€) to browse and select from hundreds of emojis, or use Discord-style emoji codes. Type colons with emoji names like  :fire:   and they'll automatically replace with emojis as you type. We support thousands of emoji codes for easy access without emoji keyboards.

Party Buttons works on all modern browsers including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge (versions from 2021 onwards). We recommend Chrome or Edge for the best experience. Mobile browsers on iOS Safari and Android Chrome are fully supported. Older browsers may have limited functionality.

We welcome feedback! You can report bugs or suggest features by visiting our GitHub repository at github.com/JoaoMarcos160/party-buttons and creating an issue. We actively monitor and respond to user feedback. Your suggestions help make Party Buttons better for everyone!

Party Buttons doesn't have built-in recording features. However, you can use screen recording software on your device to capture your party sessions. Remember to get consent from all participants before recording, as privacy is important. Popular recording tools include OBS Studio (free), Screen Recorder apps on mobile, or built-in tools like Windows Game Bar.

Party Buttons was created to bring people together through fun, accessible technology. We believe virtual gatherings should be easy, free, and respectful of privacy. The platform exists to provide a space where distance doesn't prevent connection, where you don't need technical expertise to host engaging events, and where your data stays yours.
